Chicken Coop Revisions

We have gone through our first winter (it is almost spring, I hope!) with our chicken coop and we have had some successes and some failures.

It is always a good idea to study the things that are going right and the things that are going wrong with our project.

Let's focus on the coop today. From your observations and experiences this year, what do you think is good about our coop?

What do you think needs to be changed or improved in order to keep the chickens healthy and producing eggs? Think about the entire building, inside and out. It might help to think about what you would want from your house. If the chicken coop was your house, what would you change about it to make it more comfortable and livable?

We will be using your comments from this post to make plans to modify the coop in the next weeks and months. Remember, it will be summer soon, and much warmer. What will we need to change for the summer months?

About the chicken coop well there's needs to be a window because during the summer time its so hot out. The chicken coop will be to hot for the chickens plus the roster. So I think the chicken coop needs a couple of windows so some air can go thou it. We need to put something over the top of the roof better then the tarp we are using right now. We need to put the tar paper on the top of it so it won't leak as bad. In the summer time it rains the beginning of the summer time. Right now the chickens are fine.

The good thing about the coop is, it keeps the chickens and eggs safe from predators and the cold, and we built the building with our awesome skills. It does need improvement though, like a window or vent that is near the top, because the little kids might be bum and try to throw something in the coop that could harm our friends. The window is so that it can let the bad air(ammonia) out and the good air in. The roof should be remade or we can add a thin layer of tin so that it can prevent leaks that might come when winter ends. The coop looks really plain so it also needs to be painted.

Well fist of all i would like to say to all the students that helped with the chicken coop.(GOOD JOB!)But Sad to say. It needs more equipment added into like insulation, roof(more sturdy one), A CRAZZZY! Pimped out paint job, and a vent or a window for all that bad air that is locked up tight in there. Witch brings up to the insulation. I say its doing a good job keeping them alive but every time i go in there its about same cold as it is on the outside of the coop.(But a little more warmer.)

About the summer time....They will need to get out of that hot chicken coop witch is like going to be super hot in there during the summer. So we all decided to build a out like fence of the chicken coop for them to run around, and also find some shade! But thats my thinking....(PEACE!)I think....?

First of all I think the chicken coop is fine right now but I think in the summer, people would have to put some windows in there because it will get freakin hot in there! Like crazy hot! and it would be awesome if we did a tight paint job because the chicken coop looks lame right now. And if I had to live in there I would put everything a house would need, like a couch, chairs, tables, washer and dryer, dish washer, tv, computer, a bathroom and what not, all those house things I would need. but that's just me I don't think it would be good for the chickens though, but it would be great for me

I say all is good, but it needs a fence around the chicken coop so the chickens can have more space to wobble around I also think we need to build better hen houses so thaat they can lay more eggs.
